Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson who were both lawyers. In her early years she was enrolled in her school, the Dragon School in Oxfordshire. Emma chose to be an actor when she was six. Over the course of several years she was enrolled in the Oxford branch Stagecoach Theatre Arts part-time school. There she learned singing as well as dancing, and also acting. She had already performed in numerous Stagecoach and school productions when she turned ten. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the 2001 film adaptation to J.K. Rowling's bestselling British book began in 1999. Emma was initially discovered as a casting agent through her Oxford drama teacher. After eight consecutive auditions, producer David Heyman told Emma and co-applicants Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint that they were cast as the three lead characters Hermione Granger Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. The release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was Emma's debut on the screen in cinema. It broke all records in opening-day sales and opening-weekend takings and became the top-grossing movie of the year 2001. The film was praised by critics who praised the film and particularly those who were young. The Daily Telegraph praised Emma for her excellent performance. Emma got five nominations in recognition of her exceptional performance. In the end, she received the Young Artist Award in Leading Young Actress in the Film.
